Youths challenged to fight against Genocide ideology via social media
As Rwanda is set to commemorate Genocide perpetrated against Tutsi, Honorable Jean Philbert Nsengimana, Minister for Youth and ICT, has asked youths to fight against peoples who want to disseminate Genocide Ideology through social media platforms.
He was speaking to youths in yesterday’s YouthConnekt Hangout under the theme “Kwibuka22: Fighting Genocide Ideology”.
Minister Nsengimana called on youths to share Rwanda’s true stories on social media to neutralize those who use to share untrue stories aiming at disseminating Genocide ideology.
“We can’t stop them to share their thoughts online but we can refute them by comments and writing true stories. Let us use social media platforms to prove them wrong,” said Minister Nsengimana at the event.
Doctor Joseph Ryarasa Nkurunziza, the Chairperson of Never Again Rwanda requested youths to spend their time sharing Rwanda’s true stories regarding history of Genocide committed against Tutsi, as they spend it in sports and Leisure activities in order to defeat those who want to spread Genocide ideology among them through social media platforms.
Youths who participated in the YouthConnekt Hangout pledged to contribute in the fight against Genocide Ideology propagation through social media platforms.
“We are already engaged in the fight against propagation of Genocide Ideology via Social media expressing our thoughts, sharing true stories and we will not be defeated. We have the ability to win, we will continue the battle,” Said Rukundo Mike from Nyagatare District.
Dr. Jean Damascene Bizimana, Executive Secretary of National Commission of the Fight against Genocide urged youths in general to attend all activities scheduled in commemoration week.
