More than 1000 of Former street and drug addicted young males were graduated in Vocational training at Iwawa Rehabilitation and Vocational Skills Development Centre (IRVSDC) on 12 February 2016.

Among the graduates, 203 completed training in carpentry, 677 graduated in masonry and 149 ended their training in tailoring. Besides that, some of them who were illiterate learnt reading, writing and numeracy skills.  

On behalf of all graduates, Emmanuel Kayiranga divulged that they abandoned all bad habits like drugs abuse and theft. He promised that they will be role models among peers in their respective villages.

“We have been changed and we are going to change our colleagues for good. The bright future of our country is in our hands,” Kayiranga said.

He added that with the skills and knowledge they gained from IRVSDC, they will confidently contribute towards development of the country.

In his remarks, the Minister of Youth and ICT, Honorable Jean Philbert Nsengimana told the graduates that numerous development opportunities surround them but it requires to have knowledge, work hard, and put their efforts together in order to succeed.  

Minister Nsengimana challenged parents and local leaders from across Rwanda to work jointly to ensure the reintegration of IRVSDC graduates.

Julienne Uwacu, the Minister of Sport and Culture who attended this ninth graduation ceremony urged parents to take care of their children preventing more street and drug addicted youth.

“Children need to be nourished but they need care from their parents as well,” Minister Uwacu said.
